The block 43 Syrah is made in a low intervention style from a block on the Southern edge of our vineyard. The 2021 growing season was warm and dry, punctuated by a record-breaking heat event in late June. The berries were subsequently small, thick-skinned and intensely flavored. Harvest was earlier than usual and the 1.5 tons used for this project were hand-picked on August 30th. Two-thirds of this lot was fermented in whole clusters, enhancing savory notes and structure. The wine was aged in concrete and used French oak. Bright fruit characteristics lead this vintage with just a hint of creaminess from light oak impact.

Winemaker notes: Upon opening, minerality leads alongside blueberry and strawberry notes. With decanting, pie cherry, jasmine tea, green olive, black pepper and thyme accompany a firm and food-friendly finish with a hint of toasted oak.
